When You've Tried Therapy and Still Feel Stuck
You Know Why. Your Body Reacts Anyway.
You didn't expect to be here. You put in the years. Therapy, maybe more than one therapist. The books, the classes, the strategies. You learned where your patterns come from, and you worked at changing it. No one can say you didn't do the work.
And you're still exhausted. It's late and you're lying there wondering if anything is actually going to change, or if this is just what you're like.
You may recognize some of this:
You know exactly which parts of your childhood did this, and knowing it has never once stopped it from hurting.
You have the relaxation techniques. Your body still reacts the same way when you try to speak up or try something new.
You've asked your doctor, maybe a psychiatrist, maybe a coach, hoping one of them has the answer nobody's given you yet.
You've thought about leaving. The job, the city, the relationship. But you know things would stay the same.
You look up new approaches late at night and nothing seems to help.
Nothing works, so you start wondering if the problem is you. If you're the one thing that can't be fixed.
You did the work. Understanding it was real, and it was necessary. It just doesn't reach the part of you that's still reacting.
What We Do in Sessions
You already understand yourself. So we start somewhere else.
We can keep learning about you as we go, and some of that will happen naturally. But the main work isn't just talking about your past. With EMDR and Accelerated Resolution Therapy®, we work with the experiences, beliefs, and body responses that are still affecting you now, so what happened stops running your current life.
The work happens here, in session. There's no homework, no worksheets, nothing to feel behind on.
You don't have to tell me everything. With both of these approaches, you decide how much you say out loud and when, and a lot of the work doesn't require you to narrate anything in detail. If you've already told the story many times, that tends to be a relief.
I'm not going anywhere during the hard parts. I won't push you into something you're not ready for, and I won't leave you sitting in it alone. We go at your pace, and if we need to slow down, we slow down.
A lot of my clients waited a long time before reaching out. Some worried that coming in would mean admitting that they hadn't really done the work. You did the work. Understanding where this came from was real, and it was necessary. What's left is getting that understanding out of your head and into your body, and that's a different kind of session, not a do-over.
What Getting Better Looks Like
Now, it's not just insight. Your mind actually believes it, and your body follows.
Your mind wanders to what happened and there's no immediate distress. You wake up ready to take on the day, instead of filled with anxiety.
You don't have to remind yourself about who you are anymore, because your body already believes it.
My clients still have rough days. What changes is that a rough day is just a rough day, not evidence about who they are.
If any of this sounds like you, you don't have to keep managing it alone. Schedule a free 15-minute consultation.
